How did Gypsquard brand form?
It formed when I was young and playing with G-tone from Johannesburg’s Alexandra Township. We tried different styles of art like dancing, singing, drawing and drama. After experimenting with these activities we combined into a group that is now over 15 years old. I am the director and editor because I have a good mind for art and am connected to the Johannesburg Theater Advisor of Art & Culture, Leaf Mabasa. Leaf was the leader of our dancing group called Black Diamond in 2011 and 2013, but he left the pressure of dance, and we started a new chapter as a photography group. We didn’t hesitate to feel like we were real art characters, and our present to the graphic arts was not what we expected. No one expected that we would remain in the same group even though there were no funds, connections, and etc. There was no one in our group who felt disrespected when it came to our practice, and we paid attention to each other. We strived for opportunity and worked hard with the strength and faith that we kept from our many years together. That’s how we got supporters from home that pushed us to create more and earn respect in Johannesburg.
When did Gypsquard brand form?
The Gypsquard brand first formed in 2014, and I created the logo in 2015 in Alexandra. Our Facebook account was hacked in 2016, so we created another one in the Limpopo province at Zebediela.
Where did the Gypsquard name come from?
Gypsquard’s name was coined by my friend, G-tone, and it’s allocated to any procedure that is going to make a sound or a familiar object uniquely ours. As the head director, I am going to promote and connect the brand as Gypsquard Crew because we are all photographers, designers and directors.
Where is Gypsquard from?
Gypsquard is from South Africa’s Johannesburg and Limpopo provinces.
How many years has Gypsquard tried to reach out?
We spent over four years trying to get the Gypsquard name out and present our work to good people. For those first four years we took single edition pictures and advertised them globally. We were not in a hurry, and some of our models tried to give up, so I told them to take their own photos and send them to me for creative digital design. The plan worked for all of us, and we opened a new Facebook page in 2019 that presents our style.
Blessings soon came from a connection to the Italian graphic designer Salvatore Occhipinti for the Gypsquard Element album of 2019, and from Illona Jodłowska. She is our photography analyst and romantic fine-art designer. After working with Salvatore and Illona, we began to create our pictures as visual themes in different albums.
Upcoming work for Gypsquard in 2021 will be photo streams with a lot of illustrations that are dramatic and attentional. We appreciate the support from Asia, Europe, South America, Arabia and Africa. We are honored to believe that Gypsquard is known around the world. More work is on the way.
What was challenging to create and promote?
It was hard when I had to compare what I think and what people expect from Gypsquard Edition. Most of the creative process comes from the directors’ mindsets and characteristics of the artists. We also use some models’ tips to make a digital texture and are close to making a more set piece.
What categories does Gypsquard Brand fall under?
